Where does wood go when you burn it?

Question:   Where does wood go when you burn it?

Answer:

Most of the wood turns into carbon dioxide and water vapor, both of which are gases that move away from where the original piece of wood is.  Gases have mass, though people sometimes believe they don't because it's hard to measure.
