If batteries
have acid in them, and the word "alkaline" means "basic", how can alkaline
batteries contain acid?
Answer:
The type of battery that has acid
in it is different than alkaline batteries. An example of a battery
containing acid is the lead-acid battery in a car, which contains lead and
sulfuric acid. Alkaline batteries, on the other hand, have zinc and
MnO electrodes with an alkaline electrolyte for carrying electrical charge.
